What person, real or fictional, would you want to share a foxhole with?. I am taking this daily post topic VERY literally. If I was in a war situation, and I was in a foxhole I can tell you who I would want to share a foxhole with. If I was in WWII, I would want to share my foxhole with Audie Murphy. First of all, keep in mind that I cannot shoot straight, and I do not think I would be courageous in this situation.
Here is proof that I cannot shoot a gun straight. When I was in junior high I went away to camp for a week. Each day we rotated through multiple activities: the archery range (I did fine at that), swimming, crafts (lousy at lanyards but good at popsicle houses), canoeing (they always put me in front–as i know now, because i was both tiny and clueless) and the rifle range. Understand that they probably weren’t rifles—probably BB guns. I used the same target all week because I never hit it. Not even once.
OK. Back to my foxhole companions. Audie Murphy was a WWII hero. Next on my list would be my brother Mike and sis-in-law Crystal….both Army vets…both strong stuff and fabulous protectors. Next up? Sgt. Brittany Richie (my cousin)—a veteran of the Iraq war [as a matter of fact she just came back again–2 tours—the 2nd began and ended after the conflict was ended by our President Obama]. She is so brave. The other companion would be my friend Sgt. Vince Cahill (multiple tours in Iraq and Afghanistan)..Major hero. major kudos. major courageous guy. Trust me. He’d have my back.
Last group: My dad (marine—in during Korean War), my Uncle Richard Early (ditto), my father-in-law (ditto), and my Uncle Ray (WWII), my cousin Tim (Air Force) and his wife Donna…PLUS our many friends that served via ROTC and the following years…..many many friends…..
Yeah—it’d be a crowded foxhole. Since I can’t shoot at all, I need all the help I can get…and I couldn’t ask for braver protectors than these!
