Do you see mud or stars

These days it is easy to fall into the trap of comparing yourselves to others. It is easy to over look your strengths. When we do that, we begin to think we cannot possible make our part of the world even a little better. This is wrong.

“There may be ways in which we can work for change. We don’t have to do dramatic things or devote our entire lives to it. We can lead normal lives but at the same time try not to be bystanders”. ~ Helen Bamber

I believe that we each can do something, even if it is little. Look at it this way, if someone does something kind, thoughtful, or loving, don’t you notice? I know that I do. When I see someone being kind, or hear about someone being kind or hear about person facing adversity, loss, or hardship with optimism, strength, joy…. it renews my faith. It definitely affects me. It gives me a shot i the arm. Even if it seems no one notices when I do something kind or I face trials with strength — I NOTICE. Yes, I do. That alone can give me a boost to make it through the day.

I  guess I am telling you this to encourage you. I have said many times that God was good to me in NOT making me famous. I could NOT handle the red carpet type scene at all  Instead, I am completely convinced by my own convictions that I have worth and my life has meaning. I, like you, have been through mountain top days and the depth of despair. I have been through victory and loss. I REFUSE to stay stuck.

Harry Emerson Fosdick states “Self-pity gets you nowhere. One must have the adventurous daring to accept oneself as a bundle of possibilities and undertake the most interesting game in the world — making the most of one’s best”. Let’s face it. Life is an adventure or it is drudgery. My mom used to repeat this adage “Two men looked out from their prison bars. One saw mud, the other stars”. They were looking out the same side of the building. Outlook was different.

You can define your outlook. Yes, I know. You can be suffering so very much that you feel like you cannot go on. I promise you, you are not alone. I promise you, if you focus on helping others, life will look better … not just for you but for others.

I wish you stars … and joy.
