What does Courage Mean to You

When my son was in school, they had to memorize a monologue or speech about a virtue from a provided list. At the time, hee chose courage. He chose the monologue the Cowardly Lion delivers about courage in the wizard of Oz. I was thinking about that today when I was pondering how at times life or circumstances can stop us in our tracks. Then I came across this quote about courage.

“Courage … is nothing less than the power to overcome danger, misfortune, fear, injustice, while continuing to affirm inwardly that life, with all its sorrows, is good; that everything is meaningful, even if in a sense beyond our understanding; and that there is always tomorrow.” — Dorothy Thompson

That really rang true to me today. Why” I will tell you. On days when life feels like drudgery or sorrow, it is very reassuring to realize that things can and will get better. We need to stick close to God and to those who truly love us. On days when our courage or optimism is flagging, we need to remember times when things were better. The road of life gives us peaks and valleys. But throughout our journey, the view is amazing. Every bit of it. The lousy times have purpose, too. I hope that today is a good day for you. Take time to recall and right down a time when someone helped you feel loved or courageous. I would LOVE to hear about it!
