God Really Does Have a Plan

Do you ever feel like a tiny boat made of leaves and twigs, and you are caught in a fast moving creek? God knows how to reach you and save you. Fear Not!

” God Has A Purpose for your pain, a reason for your struggles, a reward for your faithfulness. Don’t give up. Trust Him”. Today, how do you feel about that? Do you feel like responding:

  • “I guess”( with a doubtful tone)
  • “Yes, He does” (with a fired up or a serene tone)
  • “yeah, right” (with a dissatisfied or cynical tone).

Sometimes we feel as though we just skitter about, we really do. Sometimes we meander accidentally into the back channel instead of being on the main branch of the river. Other times, we actually choose that back channel. It gives us a chance to explore those islands behind the main ones. It can be quite lovely over on those uninhabited islands.

Besides that, we can use a break every now and then. In the main channel we can be buffeted by all the river traffic, including those huge barges. If we look at barges as analogous to the big challenges, problems, and difficulties, we notice a couple of things. First of all, they make huge waves, and as they move, they suck the water towards them. Second, without the barges, huge loads could not move down that river. Big barges, big problems, big challenges, and yet the chance to move big things. so maybe problems and challenges have a purpose, then? Maybe God is not mysterious, but mystically foresighted!

Of course He is. You know what? We may have part of the river maps, an emergency plan, back-up fuel tanks, and oh so much more. But you see, even a strategic planner like me must remember something. You cannot plan it all out. It isn’t ALL within your control. So explore those back islands. Something delightful awaits you. God bless your day and evening, and all the days beyond! Sail on, my friends.

  1. Kate, this has resonance on so many meaningful levels and with the journeys God is with us on. Thank you for the beautiful ‘river maps’ analogy. Blessings!

  2. Sometimes God needs someone to do something that we consider very small, but like the Widow’s Pennies, is huge to Him.
So He sometimes must work against us and our grandiose ideas, to make it happen.
But sometimes, we know what He wants.
I think of a woman I know who took her two small grandchildren to visit her friend who’d had a stroke, so they could sing to her. This grandmother is a grandiose type, possessing a famous last name because she is related to famous people, but she knew . . .
