Don’t you just love that little poster? When you feel like you have been dragged through a knothole by life, remember that. When the week has exhausted you, remember that. Our time on this earth is but a moment, when compared to eternity. Life can seem overwhelming. Responsibilities and worries can weigh you down.
But of course, when we put those worries in God’s hands, He lifts the overwhelming feelings. His light dispels the darkness. That is a welcome message this time of year. In the northern hemisphere, the days are short. Yet in those long hours of darkness, God calls us to His heart. Friends call us and meet us for coffee. Folks email us to stay in touch.
At church we sang the song Be Not Afraid this weekend. As I heard from friends via FB and email, they also sang that song at church this weekend. What a powerful affirmation that was to me. When we as a culture get gripped by fear, we need to put those fears in God’s hands. We also need to step forward with courage and boldness. Remember what Rose Kennedy said: “I shall not be vanquished”. My goodness, if she can say it after all she went through, so can we!
When we are at home and cocooning, we long to reach out. And so we do. And when we do, we find that we are not alone. God sees us through. Friends see us through. Just like always, sunshine will come, the days will lengthen. Our semi-hibernation is only temporary. As we leave our worries, concerns, aggravations, and frustrations at His feet we discover something. Unencumbered hearts can beat joyfully. May today be one of those times for you.
I will not be vanquished. Thanks!
