I’ve Never Been a Bad Girl But….

There were some girls in school that were part of the fast crowd. They partied hard, they led a looser lifestyle than I did. I was always the wide-eyed innocent. Some even called me Gidget. Those of a certain age will totally get the reference. However, there WAS a day when I dipped my toe in the bad-girl pool.

You may roll your eyes and say–’oooh what an edgy chick; life on the edge’….what can I say? I was generally a goody two-shoes..At my elementary school we were not allowed to have/eat candy during class. However, if we had a bad cough, we were allowed to have and eat cough drops. One day I had the brilliant idea to buy a box of cough drops and a package of M & Ms.

Ludens Wild Cherry Flavored Cough Drops (20 count)

I emptied the cough drops out of the box, leaving the inner sack within the cough drop box. Then I dumped the M & Ms into the cough drop box, and put the cough drop box into the pocket of my uniform. All morning long I fake coughed and took some M&Ms from the cough drop box, trying to be oh so convincing that they were cough drops. When it was time to change classes, we lined up as usual to file out of the classroom. My teacher stood by the door as we passed, and brushed up against me elbow (I was holding onto my cough drop box that was in my pocket). The cough drop box fell onto the floor….hard. The box flipped open and M&Ms scattered everywhere…..oh boy did I get it!

I had to write 500 times something about never again disappointing her and God by lying and not following the rules…..and I never broke a school rule again….LOL. Yep—life on the edge!!!

So you see, I was at one point a BAD girl!!!

I was a goody two shoes too, but not clever enough to think up the M&M cough drops! Gotta hand it to you Gidget… you knew how to be BAD! 🙂

  2. I was a bad girl. But God is good!

    the truth will out!

Nice try! The “good girls” always get found out when they try to be “bad,” don’t they?

    • Kate Kresse says:

They sure do. But it is great that I got caught! Who knows what life of perdition I might have been tempted to live! First the M & Ms and then who knows WHAT naughtiness would have been next!

Kate, I’m laughing so hard I can barely type!!! We are definitely from the “same school”–good girls who learned early (and well) that crime doesn’t pay, we WILL have to do the time!! My story is from 4th grade PE–not touching my toes, just bending a few inches, when the teacher (a mean ex-marine guy, I’m certain) wasn’t looking. And then, trying to be cool–I laughed–oh boy, near-death penalty. Never faked a toe-touch again, or committed any other “felony”. God bless you–love, sis Caddo

Wow, what a great idea to put the candy into the cough drops box. I’m glad it didn’t lead to a life of crime 🙂

I think this qualifies as a “delightful scrape” and not really bad. It is kinda sad that kids don’t have delightful scrapes –or don’t seem to. A school yard scuffle has turned into an assault and the police are called. The m&ms probably are Oxycontin now. Gossip has turned into on-line hate. Boy are we in a jam! Those among us who are charged with the teaching and safety of our young ones have their hands full. Praying for a good start to the new school year–filled with delightful scrapes and nothing more and for the skill, care, patience and wisdom for those that teach! You all have our support and respect!

    • Kate Kresse says:

delightful scrape—what a great expression! you are right, we are in a jam. we thought slam books were as bad as it got, back when we were in junior high. thanks for the prayers, support, and respect—each of us is teaching and role modeling in our own ways throughout the community no matter what job we are tasked with.

  9. Oh my! What a trouble maker you must have been! LOL! Debra
