Begin to be now what you will be hereafter. William James. Don’t you just love that quote? In the midst of the chaos I am in this week [aka working on taxes plus tutoring] it keeps me centered. I must begin this day to become the woman I intend to be. Or rather I must be the woman I wish to become.

That makes me mindful of the singing that Sinatra used to do with’ strangers in the night’. He’d sing ‘do-be-do-be-do’…and on Romper room the host would urge us : “Do be a do Bee; don’t be a don’t bee”. she urged us in our little kid time to be positive and cooperative. That is good advice even now. My dad used to say “if you volunteer to DO the chore you are required to do, BEFORE you are nagged/reminded to do it…then you do not feel victimized or put upon”.

As I say, in the midst of slogging through piles or receipts etcetera, it is good to insist that I “be what I will be hereafter”. The details and drudgery of compiling tax information will not stress me out tomorrow. Today it did; tomorrow IS another day. I must remember it is just work and taxes. I will not be defeated or diminished. Yes, Scarlett O’Hara was right; tomorrow is another day.

Love all of it, but especially Scarlett’s pic! I’m so glad (relieved) to see you–I was struggling to maintain the “rational” position that you were likely up to your elbows in tax-alligators! So happy to be right–and I’ll step up the prayers–“taxes are only for a season”…God bless you Big, Kate! It’s almost Easter–are we doing ham?? love, sis Caddo

I was up to elbows in alligators—taxes and students!!! My students work so hard and keep me hopping. Taxes~we may finally be finished tonight!! You bet we are doing ham for Easter!! local store has it for $0.97/pound!!

Oh taxes…don’t you just love them. Even though I moved, I still have to do US taxes. Good luck and don’t you just love Sinatra. I might have to put him on my ipod today during my walk.

What drives me nuts is trying to accumulate all the information that I should have been organizing it weekly all along! You would think I would remember that year to year….And yes! I love Sinatra. If you love Sinatra—DO listen to Eugene Landau Murphy Jr on youtube. He won America’s Got Talent last year—you will be amazed.

  3. Did you happen to see my post yesterday? Seems we’ve been in a similar place. I love the reminder you share here! Thank you for this, and good luck with the taxes!

  4. Loved the quote, Friend! Wouldn’t it be something if we all could manage to live that way! 🙂

Good luck with the taxes. We got ours all done and filed, thank you H&R Block! Still, just getting the receipts and spreadsheets in order took a full day. But we’re done for the year. You’ll get there too!

  6. You just made my day with a Romper Room reference! How fun is that! And I’m a big fan of Miss Scarlett, too…I’m always quoting her in one way or another. Your thoughts about being who we wish to be TODAY just couldn’t be better timed! Thank you, Kate. You always have a way of getting to the heart of something vital to our health and overall well-being. I hope the tax season doesn’t linger any longer than it must! Wishing you a blessed Easter. Debra

Don’t you remember sitting or standing in front of the TV while she looked through her magic mirror and hoping she would say her name???Such wonderful innocent fun…..I LOVE GWTW and Miss Scarlett….the book is even better than the movie; she is a strong fightin’ woman~and much deeper in the book than the movie….

I thank you so much for the kind words of affirmation. You are a dear.

    Awesome words of wisdom. 😀

  9. I’ve not thought of this quote in ages and how wonderfully appropriate for me as Good Friday will begin in my time zone in 27 minutes. Thank you so much for this incredible reminder

This is exactly where I am at this week, living with intent.

I’m so behind in comments, reading my favorite blogs, and I know there is a message from you on another post that I’ve yet to reply to. You blow me away with your kind words. I was doing a hit and run through comment alerts and saw your words to me. You bring out the best in me Kate and I was not surprised when immediately I knew there was first a spiritial connection, and second a soecial friendship that no logic can explain. Some people come into your life for a reason…..

    God Bless you Dear Kate!
