Begin to be now what you will be hereafter. William James. Don’t you just love that quote? In the midst of the chaos I am in this week [aka working on taxes plus tutoring] it keeps me centered. I must begin this day to become the woman I intend to be. Or rather I must be the woman I wish to become.
That makes me mindful of the singing that Sinatra used to do with’ strangers in the night’. He’d sing ‘do-be-do-be-do’…and on Romper room the host would urge us : “Do be a do Bee; don’t be a don’t bee”. she urged us in our little kid time to be positive and cooperative. That is good advice even now. My dad used to say “if you volunteer to DO the chore you are required to do, BEFORE you are nagged/reminded to do it…then you do not feel victimized or put upon”.
As I say, in the midst of slogging through piles or receipts etcetera, it is good to insist that I “be what I will be hereafter”. The details and drudgery of compiling tax information will not stress me out tomorrow. Today it did; tomorrow IS another day. I must remember it is just work and taxes. I will not be defeated or diminished. Yes, Scarlett O’Hara was right; tomorrow is another day.
