Being good to people is a gift

Are you good to people you don’t know?. It is so important to be good to people. If I am only kind to those that are kind to me first, well then I am just returning the favor. If i am only kind to people in order to get them to be kind to me, then I am perhaps being manipulative. But, if I instead attempt to be kind to each person just because I wish to be kind….then I believe that is a good thing.

I love to try to treat people with kindness and consideration. Of course, it is challenging when it is met with cynicism, negativity, or outright rudeness. However, if I have my wits about me, if I return this rudeness with kindness and consideration, it often brings about change. Sometimes the rude person ends up being nice and sometimes even apologizes. Sometimes it has no obvious affect at the time. With those people, I try to envision them softening later in the day. It takes time to thaw a heart. I am good to people I don’t know; I am good to people I do know, too.
