I know we are past 9/11 now. But I had not heard the story that is on youtube. A friend of mine posted the link on her facebook page–but I don’t want to put the link here. Instead hop over to youtube and look for boatlift. It is a heartwarming story of ordinary people stepping up to the plate to help evacuate Manhattan with boats on 9/11/01. It is over 11 minutes long–but oh so very much worth watching. Tom Hanks narrates the epic story of the 9/11 boatlift that evacuated half a million people from the stricken piers and seawalls of Lower Manhattan. Produced and directed by Eddie Rosenstein. Eyepop Productions, Inc. Actually I had put the link here. I have used it a number of times with no bad side effects–but I am no computer expert as far as worms, viruses, etc. It’s a really, really, moving little film….but someone else on FB said it kept popping up on her FB page and she couldn’t get rid of it. Regardless, the film tells about all kinds of boat owners that hustled over to the piers of Manhattan. They evacuated over a half million people by boat in about 8 hours…very, very moving.
I love when people just come forward, full of courage, just because. Doesn’t that inspire you? it does inspire me. I so very much need to hear stories like that—it gets me through days when life grinds me down to dust.Which is not to say I am dusty dust today—I just love heartwarming true stories. I have watched this one 3 times in a row just to make sure the message stays stuck in my mind.
