Topic #170. They say everything happens for a reason. Do you think this is true? If so, what is the reason for this topic?
Of course I think this is true. That does not mean, for example, if I am ill that God gave me the illness. What I mean is that whatever occurs, God intends for me to learn something from the experience and to remain faithfully close to Him through it all. Perhaps there are times that God does permit things to happen, actually. For example, let’s say a company is going through a round of layoffs and they decide to lay you off. They decide this despite all of your long hours and dedication. They hang on to some of the employees that are not as dedicated, or not as talented, or not as nice.
Why wouldn’t God prevent them from laying you off? Why wouldn’t He step into the fray and remind your boss that you are a great employee? Let’s see: perhaps down the road at the next job you will be treated kindly and with respect. Perhaps you will get a chance to work with some fabulous people; wonderful people that you would ONLY have met if you got laid off.
So in that sense, yes, it all does happen for a reason. God will see you through it….I would imagine that the topic-pickers wanted us to reflect a bit today. I am happy to do that—and I am happy to say that God abides. I wish you joy. I think God wants us to rejoice, he doesn’t want us to feel downhearted. I believe this becaus .I am a perennial optimist.
