Would you ever consider running for president? Topic # 140

Would you ever consider running for president?. I would not run for president, not in a million years. The political and national climate have become negative and vitriolic. I see well-meaning politicians torn apart by media and critics. I see people deliberately humiliate folks, call them names, pick on their families and turn up their noses. I realize free speech and freedom of the press gives them the right to do this. However, I decided a number of years ago I was not going to put myself or my loved ones in the position to be bullied.

It used to be that people would be too ashamed to call someone names, make fun of them, or publish pictures that make someone look bad. People were ashamed to be bullies. People considered how their words or actions might make someone else feel. There is no justification for bullying. Yet, I see a program like The View or listen to various radio programs, and there is bullying.

It seems to me that politicians are especially targeted. No, I do not believe that putting yourself in the public eye means folks have the right to bully you. I do not believe politicians should be deified. Not by any stretch of the imagination. Nor do I believe politicans have the right to bully each other, their constituents, or the American people. There is a huge difference between making a persuasive argument in a cultured fashion, and being a bully. For instance, Senator John McCain calling the Tea Party members trolls [ahem—many of whom ELECTED him] was bullying. The Tea Party members calling Obama a Fascist is bullying. There are ways both sides can disagree and discuss without bullying.

I have fought against bullying at the school level by advocating for various young students. The behaviors by the children and the blind denial by administrations goes unchecked. If I cannot get it stopped there, how could I even begin on the national level? The typical reaction is ‘kids will be kids’ or ‘he/she needs to grow a thicker skin; it is part of life’.

Yeah……….Long answer—but no I would never run for president. If the right candidate came along and was elected, I would consider being part of the White House staff.
