This is quite the timely question. This the question for 4/9/11. On 4/8/11 my son ended up in the ICU, near death from an infection. The infection resulted from a small scrape on his leg that escalated to sepsis and organ impairment/failure in a hurry. Apparently this is a possibility for him, as he was just diagnosed with lupus in January. The doctors knew it was touch and go. We knew that prayers were needed. We left his side for a few minutes to ask a few key people to make other phone calls to get folks praying. We had our parish priest come and pray with us. God granted us amazing peace throughout all of this. Yes we were scared beyond measure, and yet at the same time, filled with His peace.
The unfortunate thing was that the day that he ended up in the ICU was the day he was to graduate from college. I cannot describe the depth of my devastation about that. I had dreamed for years of seeing what he had worked for come to fruition. But the doctors and a wise friend explained that he may have missed out on his graduation, but now he will not miss out on his life. He was in the ICU for close to a week. We never left his side. (Hubby and i took turns on the midnight to dawn shift so one of us slept each night). We were united through it all. He came through with flying colors. Praise God for miracles that follow the dark stormy nights. Thank you too for remindind me to give God charge over my life.
