#8 How do you stay focused on a task or activity?
What do you do when you need to concentrate or get things done? (Say, writing a
blog post).1/8/11. There are a lot of different techniques I use to
help me focus. If it takes a lot of concentration and it’s a complicated task—such as matching up EOBs with medical bills, or solving a complex problem, I need to
have it quiet or have some very soft music on in the background. If it is
working on my blog, it helps me to stay with it to have some jazz music or soft
rock on. On the other hand—if I am doing dishes, or spring cleaning or
de-cluttering—THAT is when I break out the show tunes or the louder rock. Yep
turn it up and go to town!Back to my blogging. IfI want to come up with a posting and really don’t know at the beginning WHAT Iam going to say, it really helps me create if I have some music on. It makesthe time fly by and it helps the words kind of flow out of me. Perhaps it allgoes back to when I was a kid. One of my chores was ironing….I didn’t mind thechore at all, and it got done better and faster if I had the radio or stereo on
and some tunes playing. So, if I really need to put myself into my work, I love
having the music on. I guess it helps me practice efficiency.
If I am learning something new, or trying to figure out
something complex, my best bet is a room (or a library) where there is close to
absolute quiet…I may even light a candle if I am at home…Serenity now…and then
create! Which way works best for you? If music, which kind?
